MAHASKA COUNTY — This award is only handed out once a year to a person or family that put hard work and dedication in the Angus breed.
Nellie Meinders has lived and been involved with farming her whole life in New Sharon, Iowa. Nellie married Carleton Meinders in 1954 and had 3 children. Dorothy, Carleton Jr. and Carol. Meinders has one grandson, Clayton Hester, who helps Carleton on the family farm operation known as Double C Stock Farm that’s been started since 1943. Nellie’s husband passed in 2010.
Meinders has held many offices in the Iowa and American Angus Auxiliary until her health worsened. Meinders wrote the newsletters for the Iowa and American Angus Auxiliary for over 20 years. She was president of the American Angus Auxiliary and from 1985-85, served as a chairman of the American Angus Auxiliary Advisory of Trust Fund, she was also awarded the American Angus Auxiliary Distinguished Woman Recipient in 1992. Some of her fondest memory in the Angus segment of her life was working with Lyle Harring to write the 75-year Iowa Angus History book.
