OSKALOOSA — The Holiday Tour of Homes is returning to Oskaloosa with a new sponsor and the same commitment to the community.

“We just tried to give it a little bit of continuity this year,” Director of Family Support Services at Sieda Community Action Jennifer Fleener said.

This will be Sieda’s first time sponsoring the annual holiday program after it was at risk of being discontinued, but Fleener said that it will not be the last.

This year’s event will include tours of the homes of Randy and Kathy Pleima, Royce and Sharon Spoelstra, Chad and Jen Main, and Jack and Cathy Griffis.

Homeowners will lead their own tours, which can include history or fun facts about the home, or even just a look at decor or a holiday display.

Tours will take place Dec. 4 and 5 from 1-4 p.m. with refreshments, fellowship and a raffle at Jubilee Family Church.

“It just gives you a sense of community,” Fleener said. “People are opening up their homes, it’s time for fellowship.”

The raffle is a new addition to the event, and for $5 each or five for $20, a ticket can win a number of valuable prizes from the community including two fully decorated Christmas trees from Mahaska Drug and a $500 gift certificate for air duct cleaning from American Cleaning Services, among others.

“We tried to keep it with the theme of home and holiday,” Fleener said.

Proceeds from the event will go toward’s Siedas more-than 30 programs that are intended to alleviate the symptoms of poverty.

Programs include heat and water assistance, home weatherization, Christmas gift assistance and more.

Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance for $10 at Book Vault, Brown’s Shoe Fit, Legal Real Estate, Mahaska Chamber and Development Group, and Mahaska Drug. For tickets the day of, visit Jubilee Family Church.
