OSKALOOSA — Community 1st Credit Union is stepping up to assist with a local fundraising effort for local resident Steve Jones.
Jones, a United States Marine Corp veteran who served at Camp LeJeune, is in need of a double lung and liver transplant.
Jones says his health insurance can cover a portion of the costs, but after consulting with medical professionals who would handle his treatment at the Cleveland Clinic, he discovered the non-covered expenses are up to $8,000. He works at Pella Corporation and will continue to work while he receives his pre-transplant treatment.
The procedure would require Jones to stay in the hospital for two full months, and he needs to plan to miss work for a full year. All of his incurred expenses during that year’s time, including the $8,000, would have to come out of Jones’ pocket.
The Community 1st Credit Union has set up the Steve Jones Transplant Fund to help. Contributors can mail in a donation to 1311 A Ave W, Oskaloosa, IA 52577, or visit the credit union in person and submit funds directly to that fund.
The goal is to raise at least $10,000 to offset the estimated expenses Jones would incur for the transplant. All proceeds raised in excess of expenses Jones actually incurs will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for transplant recipient children.
Close friends of Jones say they are not asking for large amounts of money, and that they simply want to challenge each resident of Oskaloosa and Mahaska County to take just $1 in to Community 1st for it to be put in his account.
