KNOXVILLE — Firefighters on Friday morning were able to extinguish a residential fire in Knoxville.

The Knoxville Fire Department was called to the 800 block of West Rock Island at 11:20 a.m. Friday. As crews arrived, black smoke was seen coming from the front door of the home.

Crews determined the source of the fire was in the basement from the home's furnace. They extinguished the fire, but smoke had spread through the home causing damage.

There were no injuries reported and the occupant of the home was able to evacuate after hearing operational smoke alarms sound.

The home's occupant will be staying with family until repairs are made to the residence.

The Knoxville Fire Department was assisted on scene by Knoxville Police Department, Marion County EMA, Alliant Energy, and Knoxville Water Department.
