OSKALOOSA — The opening of the new Fairfield Inn & Suites was celebrated Thursday by those who played a role in the project.

The 76-room hotel is now open, located just off Highway 163 in western Oskaloosa. The project was supported by Musco, and the opening was announced by Swift Hospitality Group, Inc.

Ground broke for the hotel in spring 2019. The project also helped with the utility aspects of the development of the area, which could pave the way for future projects.

"We've set the stage for really good things to come going forward," said Beth Danowsky of Musco, but also is on the Mahaska Chamber and Development Group board of directors.

It's expected the hotel will bring an economic benefit of about $100,000 to the county's hotel/motel tax revenues each year. Additionally, it's additional property on the tax rolls, and will help serve various entities in the city, Danowsky said.

"Our community was built by a group of thoughtful visionaries who laid the foundation for the community we enjoy today," she said. "I spend quite a bit of time thinking about what will grow around this hotel for the next five, 15, and 100 years."

Fairfield Inn & Suites is supported by the Marriott brand, which includes the brand's travel program Bonvoy. Through membership to Bonvoy, travelers can check into their rooms via their cell phone, and even enter their rooms using a cell phone with the application installed.

The hotel features meeting space for up to 80 people, as well as a fitness center, indoor pool, on-site and valet laundry service, complimentary Wi-Fi, and fax and copy services.
