Dutch Greeters welcome Ducts in a Row

PELLA — Dutch Greeters gave a warm welcome to Ducts in a Row as a new member of the Pella Area Community & Economic Alliance.

Ducts in a Row offers residential air duct and drier vent cleaning services within 60 miles of the Pella area, including Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Knoxville, Indianola and the Des Moines metro area. Nick Braafhart has owned and operated the business by himself for five years, but the business has been around for over 10 years.

“Seven years ago, this business came for sale, and I heard about it,” says Braafhart. “I didn’t know anything about the business, but I decided to go for it. Three weeks later, we closed on it July 1, 2013. Since then, I’ve just kind of went from there.”

Braafhart uses a portable vacuum with a brush and 35-foot long hose to clean through duct work, cool air return vents and supply heat vents on each floor of the home. He also applies sanitizing treatment post-cleaning. Braafhart recommends home owners clean their air ducts and vents every five years. The average home takes about half a day to clean.

“It’s not a brand new industry, but it’s becoming more and more common, something you hear more about,” says Braafhart. “I’d say about 70-80% of my customers are getting them cleaned for the first time.”

For Braafhart, the most interesting part about his job is the people.

“That’s what I love about my job,” says Braafhart. “That’s why I like being on my own. I get to be in your house, visit with you and get to know you.”

Braafhart can be reached for services at 515-577-6460. He is currently booked through the end of August.
