NEW SHARON — The Mahaska County Sheriff's Office said the driver of a cement truck that rolled over on Highway 63 Thursday morning has died.
Authorities were called at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to the 1500 block of Highway 63, about 2.5 miles south of New Sharon, for a vehicle roll over.
Ray Fogle, 51, of Oskaloosa, was the driver of the vehicle. First responders extracted him from the cement truck he was driving and he was taken by medical helicopter to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A press release said Fogle died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
A press release from the sheriff's office says Fogle was driving a fully-loaded cement truck, owned by Ideal Ready Mix Inc., when a rear tire blew out causing Fogle to lose control of the vehicle.
Fogle, who was traveling northbound, crossed over the southbound lane and entered the ditch. The cement truck then rolled over.
Assisting the sheriff's office was the New Sharon Police Department, New Sharon Fire and Rescue, Mahaska County Emergency Management Agency, the Oskaloosa Fire Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
