IOWA — The chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, Troy Price, has resigned.
In a statement, Price said while precinct and satellite caucus meetings themselves went well, there was “no doubt that the process of reporting results did not work.”
Price has called for an independent review of the decisions and processes that led to the failure. In his statement, he said the Iowa Democratic Party “is not the only party to blame for what happened last week.”
“The fact is that Democrats deserved better than what happened on caucus night,” he said. “As chair of this party, I am deeply sorry for what happened and bear the responsibility for any failures on behalf of the Iowa Democratic Party.”
Price has called for an emergency meeting of the State Central Committee on Saturday to elect an interim chair. The interim will oversee completion of the re-canvass and recount process.
