The Dance Academy jazz students perform “Fame.”

The Dance Academy will convert Ottumwa’s Bridge View Center into a work zone Sunday afternoon with its spring recital.

The Dance Academy’s “Caution: Dancers at Work” recital begins at 4 p.m.

“This is our 18th annual spring recital,” The Dance Academy owner Rita Kay Van Dyke said. The Dance Academy has studios in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa.

Dancers ages 2 through adult will deliver a variety of performances — tap, ballet, jazz, poms, clogging, lyrical, hip hop, modern and character, Van Dyke said.

“We have recreational and competitive classes,” she said.

This year, The Dance Academy has something special for the audience — a parental performance. Parents of dance students will perform “Thriller” as the recital finale, Van Dyke said.

“We wanted to celebrate Michael Jackson,” she said. Any parent who was interested in performing could take the stage, she added.

Van Dyke is pleased with her young students’ progress from the beginning of the year to the end.

“It’s amazing how they’ve grown over the year,” she said.

Tickets to the recital are available at the door, Van Dyke said.
