EDDYVILLE — On Friday August 30, a team from Cargill Corn Milling in Eddyville Iowa took a fleet of canoes and kayaks and floated the stretch from Eveland Access to Hardfish Access near Eddyville.
Working from sandbar to sandbar the team gathered nearly 400 pounds of trash and debris from the river. Some of the trash included old herbicide drums, tires, styrofoam, metal and plenty of cans and bottles.
The team thanked the Mahaska County Conservation board for use of canoes and boats for those who didn’t have their own. The Friends of Mahaska County Conservation will be hosting a similar event on the South Skunk River Saturday Sept 7. Contact Friends of Mahaska County Conservation for more information or to get involved.
