Oskaloosa's Trey VanWyk brought home the individual boys title

NEWTON — Eight teams made their way to Cardinal Lanes in Newton for the annual Two Rivers Conference Bowling Tournament on Thursday. Bondurant-Farrar would sweep the team competition but Oskaloosa’s Trey VanWyk would grab the individual boys title with a three-game total of 686.

VanWyk rolled a three-game series of 214 and back-to-back 236’s to win the tournament by 82 pins. Zach Fee (5th) bowled a 585 and Jarrett Czerwinski (19th) finished with 512 to both get into the top 20 for Oskaloosa, who finished second in the team race with 2760 pins.

Pella would take fourth, Knoxville fight and Pella Christian seventh in the boys standings.

Ben Steenhoek led the Pella boys with a 500 series to just miss out on the top 20, Robert Sloan paced Knoxville with a fourth place score of 594 and high game of 237 and Pella Christian’s Austin Moorman was the runner-up with a 604 series including a high game of 223.

On the girl’s side, Oskaloosa would finish fourth with 2003 pins, Knoxville right behind in fifth with 1971, Pella Christian seventh with 1912 and Pella eighth at 1625.

Oskaloosa finished with three girls in the top 20 with Kaylee Haugen (10th, 456), Autumn DeRonde (14th, 434) and Kyrsten DeWees (17th, 427) all having strong days.

Paige Ludington was consistent on her way to fifth for Knoxville with a 500 series while Dani Roose rolled a 390 for Pella Christian and Anna DeNooy led Pella with a 436, good for 13th.

State qualifiers are next week with Oskaloosa going to Urbandale and Pella going to Pleasant Hill on Monday while Pella Christian will host Knoxville and others on Tuesday.
