Who: Knoxville (21-8) vs PCM (14-14)
What: Class 3A - Region 8 - Quarterfinal
When: Tuesday, July 6 at 7 p.m.
Knoxville holds a 5-3 advantage in the series including a 7-3 win at PCM just one week ago. The Panthers rattled off 15 hits in that game including a home run from Ashlyn Finarty.
One key player for Knoxville
Speaking of Finarty, expect her to provide more of that pop in this game. On the season the sophomore is batting .489 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs, all three lead the Panthers. She is a big bat threat in the middle of the lineup and has the ability to make hard contact in almost every at-bat and drive in runs. Knoxville sports three really good pitchers including Finarty. Should she get the ball, she has a 7-3 record with a 1.01 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 69 innings of work.
Keys for Knoxville
Stay aggressive at the plate and play a strong defensive game. Both teams can hit as they average over six runs a game. The difference between the two comes in the circle and defensively where Knoxville allows just 2.3 runs per game compared to PCM’s 6.3 runs allowed. Knoxville has three legit pitchers in Finarty, Jadyn Streigle and Ciara Heffron to choose from who all sport sub-2.00 ERAs. It will be interesting to see how the Panthers deploy them and how the defense plays behind them. The Panthers should have plenty of chances to hit and score against PCM. As long as they look to attack at the plate and limit mistakes defensively, they should be able to pick up their second win over the Mustangs in a week.
