Who: Knoxville (10-4) vs No. 1 Carlisle (16-3)
What: Class 4A - Region 4 - Semifinal
When: Saturday, July 18 at 7 p.m.
Carlisle has owned this matchup in recent history, going 8-0 since 2011 while outscoring Knoxville 75-8.
One key player for Knoxville
Jadyn Streigle has been a sneaky good player for Knoxville this season. The sophomore can play multiple positions and has made herself a threat at the plate. She is hitting .349 on the year with three doubles on five RBIs. She slot anywhere in the lineup and do the job that needs to be done. Streigle has recently played a huge part in the circle as she has been touted to finish games a handful of times. In their regional quarterfinal game against Pella, she retired all nine batters she faced to end the game. If the Carlisle bats start going against Ashlyn Finarty, Streigle gives the Panthers a good fallback option.
Keys for Knoxville
Knoxville left way too many runners on base against Pella. Situational and clutch hitting is going to be key if you want to knock off the number one team and the defending champions. Carlisle is a very good fielding team with a .972 fielding percentage to go along with a talented pitcher in Molly Hoekstra, who is 11-1 with a 1.62 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 78 innings. The Wildcats also have their own crop of talented hitters that Knoxville will try to suppress. The Panthers played another top ranked team earlier this season when they hosted No. 1 (3A) Albia. They were able to take the Lady Dees to extra innings before losing but experience in that game should help them know what to expect in this game with the winner going to the regional final.
