OSKALOOSA — The Iowa Girls Coaches Association recently released their all-state teams with seven area girls joining the ranks of the elite this summer.

In 4A, Oskaloosa’s Faith DeRonde earned first team honors while teammates Maleah Walker and Olivia Gordon earned second and third team selections, respectively.

DeRonde, a junior, had a big year while helping Oskaloosa get back to state. As a pitcher, she was 15-8 record with a 2.04 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 151 innings. At the plate, DeRonde hit leadoff with a .349 batting average with six doubles, seven home runs and 16 RBIs.

Walker, a sophomore, put together a great season and had several big impacts on field. With the bat, Walker had a .410 batting average with eight doubles, two home runs and 18 RBIs. Her OBP of .470 was fifth best in the Little Hawkeye and she converted that with her speed into 17 stolen bases and 50 runs scored. She was also special in center field where she covered a lot of ground with her speed and had six assists.

Gordon, a junior, was a big run producer for Oskaloosa this season. She would own a .414 batting average with 12 doubles to go with one home run and a team-high 39 RBIs. The catcher also threw out four runners this year.

In 3A, Knoxville got a pair of girls on the teams with Ashlyn Finarty making first team and Brittany Bacorn was selected on the third team.

Finarty, a sophomore, put together another great two-way season for the Panthers. As a pitcher, her 1.05 ERA was fifth best among qualified players in 3A while she went 8-4 with 59 strikeouts in 79 2/3 innings. In the middle of Knoxville’s order, Finarty led the team with a .455 batting average with nine doubles, eight home runs and 26 RBIs.

Bacorn, a freshman, also saw a lot of success at the plate and behind the plate. She owned a .436 batting average with five doubles, four home runs and 20 RBIs. As a catcher, she would throw out four runners.

In 2A, Natalie Harrill was a first team selection for Pella Christian while teammate Emri Agre earned second team honors.

Harrill, a junior, led the Eagles to the state tournament for the first time in 30 years with an amazing season. She would slash .483 while leading the team with 13 doubles, seven home runs and 56 RBIs with a .771 slugging percentage. Her defense was also very strong at shortstop with 108 assists and a .957 fielding percentage.

Agre, a sophomore, was a talented center fielder for PC this year. She finished with a .417 batting average to go along with 11 doubles, two home runs and 16 RBIs. She was equally impressive in the field where she didn’t commit an error all year long with 98 put outs and six assists.

All seven will have a chance to return to their teams next summer and put together more big seasons.
