Pella Christian 63, No. 8 (1A) Montezuma 53
MONTEZUMA — It didn’t take long for Pella Christian to grab a big win over a ranked opponent as they started off their season by knocking off No. 8 (1A) Montezuma.
The Eagles pulled off the win thanks to huge nights from Allison Van Gorp and Emma Witzenberg.
Van Gorp went off to score 23 points with 18 rebounds and three steals, all team highs. She did it on an efficient shooting night, going 11-of-17 from the floor.
Witzenberg finished with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, 3-of-6 from deep and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
PC led by two at the half and overcome the turnover bug in the second half to pull off the 10-point win and improve to 1-0 on the season.
Pella Christian (1-0) has their home opener on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. against Albia (0-0).
Pella 57, Mount Pleasant 25
MOUNT PLEASANT — The Lady Dutch started their season off with a bang as they rolled to an opening night victory over the Panthers.
Pella was up 34-11 at halftime and they didn’t look back as they were able to rotate out their bench in the second half.
Pella (1-0) tips off their home opener on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against North Polk (0-1).

Knoxville 39, PCM 32
MONROE — Knoxville was able to start their new campaign with a close win on the road against the Mustangs.
A tight first quarter was a followed by a lopsided second quarter in which the Panthers outscored PCM 16-4 to gain a 26-10 advantage at the half. PCM tried to work their way back into the game in the second half but Knoxville would hold them off to pick up the win.
Knoxville (1-0) returns home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. to take on Van Meter (0-1).
