CENTERVILLE — Although Knoxville only brought six wrestlers to Centerville for the Mike Halupnick Big Red Invite, the Panthers showed strong with five of the six wrestlers earning top four placings.
Knoxville sent two boys to title matches on Saturday with Andon Trout (138) and Gage Rowley (195) both grabbing second at their respective weights.
Trout wrestled in several close matches over the day, picking up decisions of 3-2, 9-4 and 8-5 on his way to the finals. There he would meet three-time state runner-up No. 1 (2A) Nathaniel Genobana of Centerville, who would pin Trout in the second period.
Rowley went 2-1 in pool play with a pair of pins and a loss by fall to No. 8 (2A) Cole Ridnour of Clarinda. After his opponent medically forfeited in the semifinal match, Rowley would get a rematch against Ridnour for the title but Ridnour would nab another second-period fall.
Marco Alejo (113) would go 4-1 with three pins on the day to take third for Knoxville.
Wayne Johnston (160) and Gavin Montalvo (182) would both take fourth while Tristian DeJong (152) grabbed 10th for the Panthers.
