KNOXVILLE — A crash on the Mile Long Bridge Wednesday morning killed a Marshalltown man.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said Lino Rivera-Reyes, of Marshalltown, was killed when the car he was driving collided with a semi on Highway 14 on the Mile Long Bridge north of Knoxville.

First responders were notified of the crash at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, one individual was still trapped in their car. They attempted life-saving measures on the individual, identified as Rivera-Reyes, but were unsuccessful.

The driver of the semi, identified as James McElvain, of Corydon, was seen by rescue personnel on scene and refused further treatment.

Agencies that responded included the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Pella Ambulance, Pella Fire Department, Knoxville Township Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT enforcement and maintenance, and the Marion County Medical Examiner.
