Merry-n-County Christmas to begin Nov. 20

KNOXVILLE — THRIVE Knoxville, in partnership with the Marion County Historical Society and Marion County Conservation, will host Merry-n-County Christmas, a lighted holiday display through Marion County Park.

The event will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6-9 p.m. and will run Nov. 20 through Dec. 23, including Dec. 21-23. Event admission will be a free-will donation. The event this year will compliment Living Windows presented by THRIVE Knoxville and the Festival of Trees hosted by the Historical Society, both of which are scaled back this year due to COVID-19.

The vision for this event is an annual event that brings families together to experience the holidays, while allowing businesses, civic organizations and families around the community to showcase their creativity through lighted displays. Displays could highlight your business, be holiday inspired or be just for fun.

To help achieve an event of this scale, donations are graciously accepted. Donations may be accepted in several ways:

• Display creation: If you are interested in creating your own holiday display, please contact Curt Schwanebeck at or 641-891-2418 by Oct. 15. All displays must be available by Nov. 6 to allow for setup time.

• Display sponsorship: If you or your business are interested in the sponsorship of a commercially purchased display, sponsorships are available for five years and include the purchase of the display, plus 5% (of purchased price) maintenance fee for years two through five. If you are interested in this option, please contact Aaron Carlson at or 641-891-1282. Displays must be purchased by Oct. 23 for inclusion in this year’s event.

• Monetary donations and sponsorships: Tax-deductible donations of any size will be gladly accepted with checks made payable to THRIVE Knoxville. If you are interested in serving as a title sponsor, the sponsorship tiers are: Reindeer ($500-$1,000), Elf ($1,000-$2,500) and Santa ($2,500 and up). If you are interested in making a donation, please contact Aaron Carlson at or 641-891-1282. Donations may be mailed to 212 W. Marion Street, Knoxville, IA 50138.

• Volunteering: If you or your organization are interested in volunteering to help set up lights and displays, tear down or staff the admission gate, please contact Tyler Christian at 641-891-6416.
