Knoxville's Beau Leisure putts a ball in on the 17th hole Thursday.

OSKALOOSA — Edmundson golf course hosted a flurry of teams looking to qualify for state Thursday morning. Luckily, the rain was able to hold off and in the end Knoxville was on top with a team score of 330, their third straight event victory. Rounding out the top three and qualifying for state, was Oskaloosa with a team score of 335 and Winterset with 344.

On the individual side, Pella’s Will Simpson took home first place with a score of 74. His only birdies came at the right time, on the 17th and 18th holes to secure the win.

Battling along Simpson was Knoxville’s Evan Smith, the Panther had three birdies on the day and ended up tied for second with a score of 76. The score led the way for Knoxville and propelled them to the top of the podium. Carson Uitermarkt came in with an 82 and Beau Leisure scored an 85 to give the Panthers a five shot victory.

For Oskaloosa, they had a consistent outing from all their golfers, resulting in a second place finish. Carter Parks led the way for the Indians with two birdies and a score of 81. Closely behind Parks was Joe Glasgow and Tucker Dejong, Glasgow ended with an 83 and Dejong an 84. The team score of 335 is the lowest the Indians have had at their home course this season.

Pella missed the cut by one stroke. Ayden Gordon put up an 80 to go along with Simpsons 74, but it wasn’t enough as the Dutch finished with a 345 just behind third place Winterset.

Knoxville and Oskaloosa will now shift their focus towards the state tournament at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown on May 27-28.
