CENTERVILLE — The Panthers started the new year off with a bang on Tuesday as the earned a girls/boys sweep over Centerville. The Knoxville girls knocked off the previously undefeated in conference play Redettes 41-29 while the Panther boys won a high-scoring game over Centerville, 86-69.
The Knoxville girls rode a great defensive effort that saw them hold Centerville to single digit scoring in all four quarters. The Panthers held a 27-24 lead going to the fourth quarter where they would close out the game by outscoring the Redettes 14-5 to get the win.
Brittany Bacorn led with double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals while Knoxville had five other girls score at least five points in the game.
The Knoxville boys picked up their second win of the season on Tuesday in a game that saw an offensive explosion from the Panthers.
Knoxville actually found themselves trailing 52-50 entering the fourth quarter before they would go off to finish the game with a 36-17 fourth quarter advantage.
Five different Panthers scored in double figures led by freshman Gabe Clark’s 20 points. Jay Kellar had 18 points, Landen Norris 17 points, Noah Keefer 16 points and Jack Bertrand with 15 points.
Knoxville will make up a girl/boy doubleheader from earlier this season as they will go to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Thursday with the first game tipping off at 6 p.m.
