ALBIA — After the first week saw their first two meets cancelled due to the weather, the Knoxville cross country team was finally able to take to the course on Monday as they opened their season at Albia. The boys would finish second as a team just two points behind Albia while the girls took third.

The top 25 runners for both races earned medalist honors as the Panther girls would place four in the top 25.

Natalie Collins led the way by finishing 18th with a time of 24:18 with Janie Maasdam finishing right behind her in 19th at 24:19. Behind those two were Olivia Maasdam in 22nd at 24:48 and Faith Roozeboom in 23rd with a 24:50.

The Knoxville boys had 11 earn medals while their top six point getters were all in the top 15.

Last year’s state qualifier Seth Walraven looked good by finishing runner-up by eight seconds to the Knoxville bunch at 17:49. Kaden McGill (sixth, 18:48) and Max Purvis (ninth, 19:19) also both cracked the top 10. Andrew Jackson (12th, 19:50), Ezra Schmidt (13th, 19:58), John Buttell (14th, 20:03) and Peter Picard (15th, 20:22) would round out the scoring for the Panthers.

Knoxville will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 4:15 p.m. at Grinnell.
