NEWTON — For the third year in a row, Knoxville dominated the competition to another Newton Tournament championship on Tuesday night. The Panthers picked up 2-0 sweeps against PCM, Newton, Saydel and Des Moines Hoover on their way to the title.

Knoxville started the night by defeating PCM 2-0 (21-16, 21-15). Tara Uitermarkt and Reilly Finarty both had seven kills, Marley McKay had 18 assists and Maggie Wilkins added 13 digs.

The Panthers then had their toughest match of the night against Newton, where they won a tight second set to win 2-0 (21-15, 21-19). Finarty and Brittany Bacorn led with five kills while McKay tallied 13 assists and Wilkins chipped in 13 digs once again.

The girls then went into cruise control the rest of the night as they would defeat Saydel and Des Moines Hoover 2-0 and outscore the two by a combined 84-20 to clinch the title.

Bacorn had six kills against Saydel while McKay added 14 assists, Wilkins had eight digs and Amy Sullivan was a perfect 20-for-20 serving with five aces.

Bacorn finished with four kills against Hoover. McKay had 11 assists while Wilkins and Kira Deaver led defensively with three digs a piece. The Panthers did most of their damage with their serve, finishing with 14 aces in the match.

Knoxville (5-1) has the rest of the week off before returning to action on Monday at 7:30 p.m. when they go to Albia (0-0).
