STORY CITY — Another strong season for the Knoxville Panthers came to an end on Wednesday night when they traveled to play No. 8 Roland-Story in Class 3A regional semifinal action. The Panthers would try to erase a double-digit deficit in the second half but would come up short, 53-40.

The Norsemen jumped out to a 16-6 advantage and continued their tough defensive first half, holding the Panthers to just four points in the second quarter to lead 26-10 at the half.

Knoxville needed a run and they got one, outscoring Roland-Story 18-10 in the third quarter to pull within striking distance at 36-28 heading to the fourth.

But the Norsemen would hold strong as Knoxville couldn’t put together one last run.

Maggie Wilkins finished her illustrious high school career with a 15 point, six rebound, four assist and two steal night. The 15 points brought her season total to 499. Emma Dunkin would add 10 points and five rebounds.

Knoxville got into some foul trouble with four starters sporting four fouls. They were also just 1-of-10 from deep and would shoot 30.9% from the field.

Knoxville finishes the season with a 15-6 record. They say goodbye to seniors Maggie Wilkins, Marley McKay and Tara Uitermarkt.
