KNOXVILLE — The Panthers celebrated senior night with a win on Friday as they were able to edge Keokuk 27-26.

It wasn’t easy for Knoxville, who found themselves trailing 20-12 at the half before scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to go ahead 27-20. The Chiefs would score in the fourth but the extra point was no good allowing the Panthers to come away with a one-point victory.

Sophomore Gavin Montalvo had himself a heck of a night on both sides of the ball for Knoxville.

Offensively, he would rush for 116 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns. Defensively, He finished with four tackles and two sacks.

Kieran Nichols made his season debut after missing last week recovering from a broken wrist. He was 6-of-13 for 73 yards and one touchdown in the air (all to wide receiver Mike Hudson) while running for 34 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Logan Clark had six tackles for the Panther defense that also recovered three fumbles and had a busy night chancing around Keokuk quarterback Corey Skinner. Skinner was 12-for-20 with 166 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 124 yards and another touchdown.

Knoxville (1-1) opens district play at home against Pella (0-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
