OSKALOOSA — The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) recently released the football schedules for 2021 and 2022.

The IHSAA made some changes to the formats this year as they added Class 5A to the mix this season with the top 36 schools getting funneled into the new class. Oskaloosa and Pella both make the jump to 4A with the change and both are in the same district this season.

Knoxville will be in 3A this season while Pella Christian will remain in 1A but will only have eight regular season games with the change of 32 playoff qualifiers for 2A, 1A, A and Eight-Man.

RPI also makes its return as 4A will have the top two finishes from each district qualify along with four at-large berths selected from the highest RPI. 1A will have the top four from each district automatically qualify which will fill out all 32 spots.

Oskaloosa (2-6) and Pella (6-3) will be in district four in 4A with games against Cedar Rapids, Washington (3-5), Clear Creek-Amana (4-4), Newton (0-8) and Xavier, Cedar Rapids (10-1).

The Indians will have non-district games against Ottumwa (0-7), Knoxville (1-7), Burlington (1-5) and Keokuk (4-4) while the Dutch will play Norwalk (2-6), North Polk (1-7), Indianola (4-5) and Bondurant-Farrar (5-4).

Pella Christian (6-4) will be in district six of 1A with games against Cardinal (5-4), Central Decatur (2-6), Pleasantville (5-3), Sigourney-Keota (10-1) and Van Buren County (1-6).

The Eagles will also have non-district games against Des Moines Christian (4-3), Panorama (6-3) and PCM (10-1).

Knoxville will be in district six of 3A with games against ADM (3-5), Atlantic (7-2), Creston (1-7), Harlan (11-1) and Saydel (4-5).

The Panthers will also play Newton (0-8), Oskaloosa (2-6), Carlisle (6-4) and Fairfield (1-7) in non-district play.

Here is how the area teams stack up in terms of strength of schedule based off last year’s results; Oskaloosa (29-44, .397%), Pella (31-46, .403%), Pella Christian (43-27, .614%) and Knoxville (35-45, .438%).
