Knoxville

Knoxville players talk on the sideline during a game earlier this season

Who: Knoxville (0-5, 0-1) vs Saydel (0-5, 0-1)

Where: Saydel High School Football Field in Des Moines

When: Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

Matchup history

Knoxville has dominated the series with a perfect 6-0 record against Saydel since 2010 with only one game being decided by less than 25 points. The Panthers won 56-0 most recently in 2019.

One key player for Knoxville

The Eagles will sling it around a bit with quarterback Judd Roberts, who has thrown for 644 yards so far this season. Keep an eye for Knoxville’s Michael Greubel as a difference-maker on the Knoxville defense. Greubel will need to be disciplined with his reads but with 14.5 tackles (second on the team) and one interception, he should have a chance to make big plays for the Panthers.

Keys for Knoxville

Two teams that have had a tough time getting things going on both sides of the ball this year will meet on Friday with one grabbing their first win of the season. Knoxville will need to limit self-inflicted mistakes such as penalties and turnovers and just focus on what they can execute. Neither team has played in a game decided by less than two touchdowns this year so it will be interesting to see how they both react if this one stays close in the second half. The winner will get a much-needed boost heading into the final stretch of the season.
