Knoxville players gather at the mound for a mound visit during a game earlier this season

Who: Knoxville (17-17) vs Carlisle (15-19)

What: Class 3A - Substate 5 - Quarterfinal

Where: Carlisle

When: Friday, July 16 at 7 p.m.

Matchup history

Didn’t meet in the regular season.

One key player for Knoxville

This Carlisle team has a lot of power in their lineup. Someone who can match that power for Knoxville is Bode Cox. The senior catcher has a violent swing that has helped him to a .310 batting average with two home runs and 24 RBIs. Expect him to have a handful of hard-hit balls in this one.

Keys for Knoxville

This could easily turn into a shootout kind of game with a lot of scoring. Knoxville averages 6.3 runs per game while Carlisle averages eight runs and both give up over six runs on average. The Wildcats are one of the top slugging teams in 3A where they lead the class in home runs (26) and are second in doubles (77). Whoever gets the nod for Knoxville will be tasked with trying to limit Carlisle to soft contact as they can change the course of any game with one swing of the bat. The Panthers may not need to try and match their power but they will need to match the run production if they want a spot in the semifinals.
