Knoxville huddles before the start of the inning against Pella Christian.

Dallas Center-Grimes 2, Oskaloosa 1

GRIMES — The Indians nearly had an undefeated week but ran into some good pitching on Friday as DCG scored runs in the fourth and fifth inning, which proved to be enough.

Oskaloosa was held to just three hits by Mustangs starter Logan Smith, who pitched six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.

Charlie North got two of Oskaloosa’s three hits out of the nine-spot while the Indians also had some impressive pitching performances of their own. Noah Van Veldhuizen went four innings giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Jarrett Czerwinski pitched the final two innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Oskaloosa (3-1, 3-1 LHC) travel to Knoxville (1-2, 0-1 SCC) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

No. 8 Woodward-Granger 3, Pella Christian 2

WOODWARD — Pella Christian nearly pulled off the upset on a Saturday afternoon as they fell just short to Woodward-Granger.

The Hawks scored one in the fourth as the Eagles answered with one in the fifth only for Woodward-Granger to get it back in the bottom of the fifth. Pella Christian wouldn’t shy away as they tied the game at two in the top of the sixth only for the Hawks to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh.

Blake Veenstra went 2-for-3 for the Eagles with a RBI while also pitching an inning of relief with four strikeouts. Matthew Bokhoven got the start and went four innings giving up one unearned run without giving up a hit while striking out seven.

Pella Christian (1-3, 1-3 LHC) will have their home opener on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in a doubleheader against Indianola (2-3, 2-2 LHC).

Knoxville 8, EBF 4

EDDYVILLE — Seven innings were not enough for these two as Knoxville used four runs in the eighth to pull away and grab the win over the Rockets.

Ashlyn Finarty pitched all eight innings for the Panthers giving up four runs, three earned, on 11 hits with two strikeouts. She also collected two hits as a batter.

Emma Dunkin went 3-for-5 with a double while Reilly Finarty and Jadyn Streigle both had two hits and two RBIs.

Knoxville (3-0, 1-0 SCC) travels to Centerville (3-0, 2-0 SCC) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
