Oskaloosa 4, Albia 3

ALBIA — The Indians held off a late rally from Albia on Tuesday to pick up their third win in a row.

After both pitchers collected two strikeouts in the first inning, Oskaloosa got the board in the second inning. Presley Blommers opened with a leadoff double before scoring on a RBI bunt single by Kaylee Johnson. Johnson would steal second and then score on an Aubrey Boender RBI single.

The 2-0 score would hold until the fifth inning as Abby Braundmeier’s sac fly would score Lydia Van Veldhuizen followed by Maleah Walker scoring on a Blommers RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.

Albia would look to rally in the sixth inning with three hits and one Osky error leading to three Lady Dee runs to make it a one-run game going to the seventh.

Faith DeRonde would finish off her complete game by striking out two more in the seventh to secure the win and give the Indians their fifth win in their last six games.

DeRonde would give up three runs, two earned, on six hits with one walk and eight punch outs for her second win of the year.

Oskaloosa (8-5, 4-1 LHC) returns home to face No. 4 (5A) Indianola (10-3, 4-1 LHC) on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.

Knoxville 5, Bondurant-Farrar 4

BONDURANT — Knoxville held off a couple of late rallies from Bondurant-Farrar on Tuesday to get the one-run win.

The Panthers jumped out in front 4-0 through the first four innings before the Bluejays would pull within one after plating three in the fifth.

Knoxville added an insurance run in the sixth only for the Bluejays to get it back before the Panthers would shut the door and get the win.

Ciara Heffron had a home run and two RBIs for Knoxville while Hannah Dunkin and Jadyn Streigle both drove in one run. Hannah Dunkin and Emma Dunkin both reached safely three times while Ashlyn Finarty had two hits.

Finarty also got the win in the circle after giving up four runs, three earned, on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Knoxville (8-3, 1-2 SCC) will host Albia (5-3, 1-1 SCC) on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Baseball

No. 4 (3A) Gilbert 11, Knoxville 0

KNOXVILLE — The Panthers welcomed one of the top teams in 3A to town on Tuesday as Gilbert would run-rule Knoxville in six innings.

The Tigers got things started with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings before opening things up in the fifth and sixth inning to win by run-rule.

Knoxville was outhit 10-4 in the contest with Gilbert’s Sam Vanderpool going six innings allowing just those four hits with seven strikeouts.

Knoxville (3-7, 1-4 SCC) returns to conference play on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. with a doubleheader against Albia (5-4, 3-1 SCC).
