Knoxville 11, Chariton 6
CHARITON — Knoxville finished up South Central Conference play on Friday with a road win at Chariton.
The Panthers scored two in the first before giving up five runs in the second to the Chargers. Both teams scored runs in the third with Knoxville trailing 6-4 before scoring seven unanswered runs over the next four innings.
Mike Hudson led the Knoxville bats going 1-for-2 with two walks and three RBIs. Bode Cox also reached three times going 3-for-5 with a double and one RBI while Hayden Hatch walked three times. Trenten Kingrey was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Jaxon Zuck went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Zuck got the start on the mound but was replaced in the second inning by Carson Uitermarkt, who went the rest of the way without allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings to get the win.
Knoxville (14-14) gets some non-conference action this week starting with hosting Newton (6-19) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Knoxville 8, Chariton 2
CHARITON — This one was tight for most of the game with Chariton leading 2-1 heading to the fifth before seven late runs by the Panthers pushed them to victory.
Ciara Heffron enjoyed a 2-for-4 night at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. Brittany Bacorn was 3-for-4 while Jadyn Streigle and Olivia Maasdam also had multiple hits. Charlie Willis had a triple and two RBIs while Maasdam and Ashlyn Finarty also drove in a run.
Heffron pitched four innings allowing no runs on three hits with one walk while Streigle pitched three innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
Knoxville (21-8) starts postseason play on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they host PCM (14-14) in the regional quarterfinals.
