CENTERVILLE — The bats were alive for the Pella Dutch in Centerville on Monday as they posted double digit runs for the first time since June 10 to pick up a five-run mercy rule win against the Big Reds.
Nick DeJong had a home run as part of a 2-for-3 night while Jason Knox had two doubles and five RBIs.
Mason Wittmer earned the win after allowing one run and four baserunners in five innings of work.
Pella (16-12) hosts Martensdale-St Marys (18-5) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Newton 8, Knoxville 2
KNOXVILLE — A late rally from the Cardinals pushed Newton past Knoxville on Monday.
The Panthers jumped out in front 2-1 early in the game and were able to hold that lead until he sixth inning. There Newton would tie the game with a run before exploding for six runs in the seventh to get the win.
Luke Spaur went five innings on the mound, giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Beau Leisure would come in relief and was given the loss in the final two innings.
Knoxville (14-15) will continue their busy week on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when they travel to Bondurant-Farrar (9-12).
