No. 8 (1A) Pella Christian 6, Oskaloosa 5
PELLA — After meeting at the Pella Invitational on Saturday, Pella Christian and Oskaloosa dueled in a close meet with the Eagles coming out on top.
The Eagles would jump out in front 4-2 after singles play. Megan Kramer defeated Jillian Jennings (6-4, 6-3), Kelly Van Wyk beat Aubree Blanco (6-3, 6-2), Katy Roose downed Amanda Fay (6-1, 6-1) and Sydney Van Arendonk won against Lucy Roach (6-4, 6-1).
Oskaloosa picked up a pair of wins with MaKenna Schaffner defeating Adrienne Vander Molen (6-2, 6-2) and Presley Blommers beating Claire Vander Molen (6-2, 7-5).
Doubles play went down to the wire with the Indians getting thrilling wins from Roach/Blommers (4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8)), Schaffner/Fay (6-3, 7-6 (8-6)) and Kaylee Johnson/Abby Braundmeier (4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (13-11)).
But it was the Eagles getting wins from Kramer/Van Wyk (6-0, 6-2) and Tessa Breems/Mikayla Prendergast (6-0, 6-1) to secure the duel for PC.
“The girls played hard once again but this time it just wasn’t meant to be,” Oskaloosa head coach Bryan Kime said. “This was a close meet from the start to finish. I’m really proud of the effort the girls gave each night.”
Oskaloosa (5-3) is right back at it as they travel to Norwalk (8-3) on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. while No. 8 Pella Christian (6-1) will go to Grinnell (3-4) on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
Indianola 9, Knoxville 2
INDIANOLA — The Panthers fell to a good Indianola squad on Monday on the road.
Knoxville avoided a sweep with a win in singles and doubles play. The lone singles win came from Gabe Mathias, who won 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 match while the doubles win came from Mathias teaming up with Jaxson Zuck as the two won their match 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
Knoxville (4-3) goes to Chariton (6-1) on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
Oskaloosa plays at Indianola
INDIANOLA — The Indians golfed in a quad meet at Indiana Country Club on Monday.
The nine-hole event between Newton, Indianola, Grinnell and Oskaloosa was won by the Cardinals.
The Indians didn’t place as a team as they only had three girls play. Audrey Stoneberg led Osky with a 59 while Breana Engelhardt carded a 65 and Morgan Howard finished with a 77.
Oskaloosa is back at Edmundson Golf Course on Tuesday at 1 p.m. for a home triangular against Dallas Center-Grimes and Grinnell.
Knoxville cards season-lows
KNOXVILLE — The Knoxville Panthers shot a season-low team score of 197 on Monday at Pine Knolls Golf Club, beating second place Saydel by 50 strokes.
Nikolle Kussatz earned medalist honors with a great score of 44 while Amy Sullivan finished runner-up with a 48.
Isabella Day-Suhr carded a 50 while Faith Roozeboom shot a 55 and Hayden Hudson finished with a 69.
Knoxville will hit the road on Tuesday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Pleasantville for a triangular.
Pella Christian 2, Collins-Maxwell 1
PELLA — The Eagles snapped a seven-game skid where they were having trouble finding the back of the net and were able to get a good win at home on Monday.
Pella Christian scored both of their goals in the first half, courtesy of Alejandro Murdoch and Jack Fancher. The Eagles were then able to hold off the Spartans in the second half to get the victory.
Pella Christian (2-7) is back at it on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they host Newton (5-6).
