PELLA — Both girls soccer coaches associations recently released their all-state and all-district teams with several area athletes earning top honors.
The Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) named both Pella Christian’s Joslyn Terpstra and Pella’s Abby Warner as first team selections while both were Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) second team selections and first team all-conference choices.
Terpstra, a sophomore, roamed the midfield and showed her two-way potential this season with a team-high 14 goals to go with four assists and made plays in all areas of the field.
Warner, a freshman, was an offensive force for the Lady Dutch this season as she finished tied for 13th in Class 2A with 26 goals. She ranked first in freshman scoring in 2A and was third among freshman in the state.
Pella Christian’s Jaclyn Holmes and Pella’s Macy Schulz were both IGCA second team all-state choices and first team all-district selections.
Holmes, a freshman, showed a lot of poise for her age on the back line for the Eagles. Her aggressiveness on defense was huge for PC this year and she made a lot of big plays to keep other teams off the board.
Schulz, a senior, was great playmaker for the Lady Dutch. Whether it was finding the likes of Warner and Roselande Vanderhoff on runs, or scoring herself, Schulz made the right read most times. She finished with a team-high 13 assists along with nine goals.
Knoxville’s Taylor Jones earned first team all-district honors while teammate Melody Torres and Pella’s Hailey Van Houweling, Anneka Stoltzfus and Pella Christian’s Lydia Zylstra all received second team all-district honors.
