PELLA — The Pella City Council unanimously approved renewing the annual yard waste contract from Metro Waste Authority during their Tuesday night meeting, which previously expired at the end of 2020.

City Administrator Mike Nardini gave a presentation of the item towards the council, mentioning how renewing contracts doesn’t always mean an increase of cost. However, for 2021, Metro Waste Authority proposed a cost increase for their services.

The price per individual bag will increase from $0.95 to $1.08. Additionally, the price per bundle will increase from $4.75 to $5.40.

The council also approved the Pella Farmer’s Market changing their location for this year. The farmer’s market will be on the East side of Central Park.

According to Nardini, the purpose of the move is to make the market more visible and accessible for ongoing customers. The market will be available to the public every Thursday until Oct. 28, 2021. The accommodation will also require closing parking near the East side of the park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m during each event.

The next Pella City Council meeting will be on June 15, beginning at 6 p.m.
