Former Osky resident seeking info about former classmates

Betty Glider Munson is the second student from the left. The other students form left to right are Betty Jo Synhorst, Glider Munson, Pearl Bogard, unknown, Elsie, Shirley and Irene (last names unknown). The two boys in the front row are also unknown, and Glider Munson would like help identifying the three classmates.

OSKALOOSA — Betty Glider Munson, formerly of Mahaska County, would like help identifying fellow classmates in an old photo.

Glider Munson says the photo was taken around 1945 at a school house west of the old Prine Ridge School on the left of Highway 92 near Oskaloosa. Glider Munson and the rest of her class were taught and mentored by Eugene Van Arkle.

The photo includes classmates Betty Jo Synhorst, Pearl Bogard, Elsie, Shirley, Irene, (last names unknown) along with three individuals whom Glider Munson would like to identify.  She would also like to know the name of the school house.

"As in all country schools at the time, the older students helped with the younger ones, and that is what I remember, the kindness they showed me," says Glider Munson. "I wondered for a long time what happened to all of them."

Glider Munson, who now resides in Cedar Rapids, lived on a farm about half a mile north of the school with her parents. In March the following year, she and her family moved to Webster, Iowa where she completed her secondary schooling.
