No one was injured Thursday in a late-morning house fire in Centerville.
The Centerville Fire Department responded to the fire shortly after 11 a.m. at 617 N. Sixth Street. When firefighters arrived they determined all occupants had escaped the house safely, but the fire itself did a significant amount of damage.
A woman who lived in the house said the fire started in the porch area. After discovering the fire, the woman tried to find a bucket to fill with water, but smoke prevented her from doing so and forced her to call 911. The back porch and kitchen area of the one-story, vinyl-sided structure sustained considerable fire damage.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $85,000.
