Indians outlast No. 5 Norwalk for key LHC win

Last Friday, Oskaloosa took on the top team in Class 4A and played it tough.
On Wednesday night, the 10th-ranked Indians faced another top-5 team in Norwalk and, this time, they picked up the 4-2 win.
"Great team win on the road over the No. 5-ranked team," Oskaloosa coach Jay Harms said. "The girls really came focused tonight and beat a very good ballclub and a first-team all-state pitcher."
Oskaloosa led 4-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Norwalk plated two runs on two hits, two walks and one Oskaloosa error to make it interesting.  Norwalk had the bases loaded with two outs. Kylee Silliman relieved Alexis Groet, who Harms said was physically worn out and Silliman was able to coax the No. 4 hitter to hit her seconnd pitch to Peyton Zickefoose, who stepped on the bag at third to end the game.
"Groet pitched a great game and really battled out of a couple of jams," Harms said. "Norwalk had runners on third and second in the second but Groet got a pop up and a strikeout to end the threat.
"Norwalk also had runners on third and second in the fourth with two outs, but the No. 7 hitter flew out to (Kelsie) Tomlin in center. The play of the game came in the fifth — Norwalk had the bases loaded with one out. Their No. 3 hitter lined out to Zickefoose at third, who was able to touch the runner before she was able to get back to third for the double play."
Oskaloosa (18-1) scored twice in the fourth on three hits. Silliman led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Callie Arnold. She scored on Zickefoose’s RBI double down the left field line. Josie Bunnell ran for Zickefoose and she scored on Aubrey MiIller’s RBI double to right center.
