Osky freshmen see plenty of action on court

OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa freshman girls basketball has had a busy past couple of weeks on the hardwood.

The Indians played a pair of games Saturday at Belle Plaine, playing Sigourney and English Valleys.

Oskaloosa lost to the Savages 36-18 as Jackie Reif led the team in scoring with six points. Hailey Adams and Addison Perdew both had four points while the duo of Andie Reif and Nicole Strasser both scored two points. Strasser led the team in rebounding with seven and added a block while Jackie Reif and Taylor Seaton both grabbed six rebounds. Reif added one steal and two blocks while Seaton had one assist and a pair of blocks. Paige Howard had three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block while Adams had one rebound, five steals, two blocks and an assist. Andie Reif also had two rebounds, two assists, four steals and one block while Perdew had one rebound and one steal. Julisa Payne had one rebound and one assist as Makennah Little had one rebound and Anna Kain had one rebound and one assist. Jamie Holmberg contributed one steal.

Oskaloosa then played one of its better games of the year as it held English Valleys to no field goals in the second half and went on to the 23-15 win.

Howard led the way for the Indians with seven points as Adams added six and Andie Reif and Jackie Reif both tallied four points. Seaton contributed two points in the winning cause. Seaton had a big game rebounding with 12 while adding four blocks, five steals and an assist. Howard also had five steals, two blocks, one rebound and one assist as Jackie Reif had six rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block. Strasser and Andie Reif both had three rebounds as Strasser added four steals, and one block. Adams added two assists, three steals and one block while Littler had one rebound and Holmberg had a block. Kain chipped in two steals.

The Indians faced Newton on Jan. 10 and the Cardinals picked up the 41-25 win.

Howard topped Oskaloosa with 11 points while three players — Adams, Seaton and Strasser — all tallied four points. Andie Reif scored two points. Seaton and Strasser shared the rebound lead with six apiece as Strasser recorded three blocks, two steals and one assist. Seaton added two blocks and an assist. Howard grabbed four rebounds and added three steals, one assist and one block while Jackie Reif had three rebounds, four assists and a steal. Andie Reif had three rebounds and a steal while Holmberg had one steal.

Oskaloosa took on Albia on Jan. 8 and the Lady Dees came away with a 39-27 victory.

Andie Reif and Jackie Reif both scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Adams had three points while Payne had two and Strasser contributed one point. Jackie Reif was the top rebounder with nine as she added three steals, two assists and a block. Seaton and Strasser both grabbed seven rebounds as Strasser added four steals, one block and one assist. Andie Reif had five rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block while Howard had two rebounds and one assist. Adams contributed two assists, one block and  one rebound while Kain had two rebounds, one steal and one assist. Payne had one steal.

Oskaloosa closed out 2012 with a 41-19 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Dec. 15.

Holmberg also had one steal as Jazmine Swan had one steal.
