North Mahaska looks to rebuild in 2013

NEW SHARON —

The 2013 North Mahaska Warhawk football team will be looking to rebuild this season.
Not only to replace a number of key players, but also to increase wins and get the team back to playoff status.
The team goal is to rebuild the tradition of Warhawk football said head coach Steve Ehret.
To rebuild the team he will rely on five seniors.Brock Pollpeter, Justin Richards, Taylor Legvold, Chase Koehler, Aaron Boender and Alex Schultz will be the keys to the season.
They will be providing the base and leadership needed by the Warhawks.Ehret said his team is getting back to basics.
“To rebuild the Warhawks must get a solid base,” said Ehret. “The early practices have stressed the fundamentals, especially blocking and tackling. The rebuilding will not happen overnight but will be an ongoing process.”
Ehret sees the district loaded with great teams. Montezuma, BGM, Pekin and Lynnville-Sully, all playoff teams in 2012, will be the favorites. Pleasantville, English Valleys and Southeast Warren will be improved from last year.
Ehret said there are no easy games.
Non-district games will include Belle Plaine, GMG and Waco, are tough ones also.Supporting the seniors will be a good group of juniors that will need to play major roles in the rebuilding.
Karrson Stodghill, Trent Wanders, Gage Simons, AJ Hibler, Andrew Newport, Trey Rutledge, Bret Doty, Dakota Hudnut, Skyler Meyers, Austin Lanphier, Zeb Williams, Keaton Van Weelden and Adam Pothoven will all play a part on the team. Some sophomores are likely to see action on Friday night.
Those include Coleton Davis, Jakob Bortel and Parker Davis.
It could be a season where underclassmen have a chance to see extensive action on Friday nights.
Ehret said his team would be ready to go when they take the field on Aug. 23 as they face Belle Plaine in the opener.
“This Warhawk team is up for the challenge,” said Ehret. “They are not the biggest or strongest but they will play with heart. They will not back down.”
The season begins Friday at 7 p.m. against Belle Plaine.
