Bowen hits for cycle in NM's rout of Keota

Herald correspondent

Quick and to the point.
That is the description of North Mahaska’s softball win over Keota Tuesday. The teams were playing a makeup game from last week.
On May 28, the Warhawks hosted Keota winning 17-0. Tuesday, North Mahaska plated eight runs in the first inning, six before the first out, en route to a 21-1 victory.
The Warhawks hammered the ball, stole bases and took advantage of Keota errors scoring five times in the second inning and eight more in the third. The team batted around three times.
Third baseman Sarah Bowen hit the cycle and drove in five runs. Michaela Heys had a single and a double with two RBI.
“They came out and did what they needed to do,” said North Mahaska coach Chris Sampson. “After the beginning, it was a matter of getting the outs.
“Carissa (McBirnie) had a good night. We worked on some things and it paid off. It’s been a great confidence builder.”
McBirnie faced 11 batters striking out six. She allowed two hits, both in the third inning.
Keota made its only offense when Mallory Ladahoff hit a two-out single. Lead-off hitter Kelsie Sieren hit an RBI single for the only run. McBirnie then struck out the final batter.
Ladahoff took the loss. She allowed 21 runs on 12 hits, six walks and a hit batsman. The Warhawks hit four doubles, a triple and a homerun.
North Mahaska, 6-3, hosted BGM Wednesday.
