The Pella Christian girls soccer squad recorded its fourth win of the season with a 5-0 shutout of Centerville on Monday night.
The Eagles amassed 42 shots en route to the win. Morgan DeRuiter provided the early scoring for the Eagles with two first-half goals. She scored her first goal at 18:00 and her second at 37:00. Abby Pleima assisted on the second goal.
Pleima then matched DeRuiter with two goals of her own in the second half. Her first goal came at 70:00 and her second goal was netted 2 minutes later. Jo Brouwer had the assist on the first Pleima goal. Courtney Nikkel scored her first goal of the year at 74:00, with Damaris Worthington recording the assist on the goal.
Trisha Fopma led the defense to the shutout win, with 18 defensive stops.
"Obviously, this was a good win for us," Pella Christian coach Bill Collman said. "Looking beyond the winning score, we showed a great deal of improvement in our offensive attack. We crossed the ball extremely well to find open spaces in which to create good shooting opportunities. We saw tonight that when our offense creates attacks, the defense doesn't have to work as hard. The midfield trio of Jo Brouwer, Marina Shannon and Ashley Ambroson provided excellent offensive support, as well as stopping Centerville from building their attack."
