POINT LOOKOUT. Mo. — Things didn't look good for No. 1 William Penn late in its quarterfinal matchup with 25th-ranked Midland saturday at the NAIA Division II Championships. The Statesmen trailed 66-65 with 1:55 left following a basket by Midland's James Parrott. Midland had the ball in the closing seconds, but turned the ball over with 7 seconds remaining in regulation. Brandon Beasley missed a shot, but teammate James Devlin grabbed the last of the Statesmen's 17 offensive rebounds. Devlin then put the ball in the basket for the winning points in a wild 67-66 win. William Penn (33-1) meets the winner of the Dakota State-Grace game Monday at 6 p.m. in the semfinals. Devlin finished with six points and seven rebounds while Beasley tallied 12 points and grabbed 23 rebounds. Keith steffeck had 19 pointss while Taylor Stoutner had 18 points.
