Dana Van Renterghem of Oskaloosa was among those honored at the Central College softball awards banquet July 14.
Central made a record 25th NCAA Division III tournament appearance, winning a regional championship and advancing to the national finals for the 13th time.
The Dutch tied for seventh at the finals in Eau Claire, Wis., and closed with a 32-10 record, also winning a share of their 12th Iowa Conference title.
Senior catcher Caitlyn Meyer received the team’s LeRoy Timmer Most Valuable Player Award as well as the Most Inspirational Player Award.
She hit .379 with eight home runs, the third-highest total in school history, while knocking in 28 runs.
Earlier she was named the Iowa Conference Position Player of the Year after leading the league with a .548 batting mark. Meyer is Central’s all-time leader in career slugging percentage (.578) and ranks ninth in career batting average (.457).
The Outstanding Defensive Player Award went to sophomore third baseman Whitney Sowers. Sophomore first baseman Katie Canney, who transferred to Central in January, received the Newcomer of the Year Award and center fielder Paige Heesch was given the
Most Improved Player Award. Meyer and pitcher Rhianna Fleetwoosd were cited for serving as the 2013 team co-captains.
Second baseman Chelsea Greiner, pitcher Brie Haycraft and left fielder Jordan Overland were named co-captains for the 2014 campaign.
Coach George Wares also awarded 21 varsity letters. Wares, the winningest coach in Division III history, completed his 29th season with a 977-323-3 career record.
Van Renterghem a sophomore catcher, reeived her first varsity letter after batting .333 with one home run and five RBI in seven games played.
She also scored four runs, had four hits and was an academic all-Iowa Conference this past season.
