Penn golfers finish third at Iowa Wesleyan Tourney

The spring season continues to be productive for the Statesmen men’s golf team as it was within striking distance of another title at the Iowa Wesleyan Tiger Classic Monday.
William Penn placed third out of nine teams with a score of 303 at the par-72 Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course. The team was only three strokes back of team champion Illinois Central Community College at 300 and one back of runner-up Central (White) at 302.
Waldorf’s Thomas O’Rourke won medalist honors with an even-par 72 to lead the field of 49 players. The trio of Brandon Dizon, Byron Lindeque and Tyler Lallier were in the mix as they tied for fifth at 75.
Jeremy Swink was next in a tie for 21st at 78, while Kyle Hashimoto rounded out the squad with an 80 to tie for 28th.
The Statesmen a 323.1 average in the fall, but is performing much better this spring with a 310.4 clip in five rounds.
William Penn has the rest of the week off before returning to action next Monday and Tuesday, April 14-15 by traveling to Booneville, Mo., to compete in the Central Methodist Open. The two-round event will be contested at Hail Ridge Golf Course.
