Usually when Oskaloosa and Pella get together on any athletic field, the games are close.
The softball teams had two such contests Wednesday night as the Indians won the opener 3-2 and the Lady Dutch took the nightcap 2-1 to split the Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader.
Oskaloosa (15-4 overall, 6-2 LHC) snapped a three-game losing streak with the opening-game win.
Callie Arnold's third hit of the game was the game-winner, a two-out double that drove in Shawni Wills for the tie-breaking run.
Alexis Groet improved to 9-1 on the season as she struck out 13, walked one and gave up six hits.
Wills had a single and a double for Oskaloosa while adding an RBI.
The Indians had their chances late in the second game, but came up short.
"We had runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the sixth and failed to score," Oskaloosa coach Jay Harms said. "We came back and had the tying run on second with one out in the seventh and again couldn't come up with the big hit. We stranded 13 runners in the two games."
Arnold had a pair of singles while Wills, Groet and Kylie Hill all doubled. Peyton Zickefoose drove in Oskaloosa's lone run.
Kylee Silliman (5-2) took the loss for the Indians, giving up the two runs on seven hits and struck out four.
Oskaloosa hosts Knoxville Friday in a freshman-junior varsity-varsity tripleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.
