Indian girls set pair of meet records at Osky Relays

The 87th running of the Osky Relays was a bit on the warm and windy side.
Temperatures got the the low 80s on Saturday while the strong southerly wind made performances a bit of a struggle at Lacey Complex Stadium.
Pella and Pella Christian won three of the four divisions as the Little Dutch swept the Class A titles and the Eagles captured the Class B girls' crown. Woodward Academy was the winner in the Class B boys' division.
Oskaloosa recorded a pair of second-place finishes in Class A while the junior varsity teams were fourth in the girls and the boys came in sixth in the boys in Class B.
The North Mahaska girls team was second and the boys squad placed fifth in Class B.
While the windy conditions may have hampered some competitors, the Oskaloosa girls did break a pair of meet records in Class A.
The first came in the long jump when Taylor Richardson flew past the 29-year-old record of 16-feet, 11.75 inches when she went 17-9 to win the event.
Richardson also had a hand in the second meet record of the day as she anchored the winning shuttle hurdle relay team that also had Kenzie Gunter, Maria Settimi and Kelsie Tomlin on it. The unit ran 1:08.85 that broke the 2012 record of 1:09.17 set by Pella.
"Despite being a 'bit' breezy, the girls competed on a high level," Oskaloosa coach Betsy Luck said. "We had eight individual PRs (personal records) set as well."
Also claiming wins for the Indians were Bailey Blythe in the 3,000-meter run, Gunter in the 100 hurdles, Asia Laudermilch in the 100 and Brey Hill in the 400.
The Warhawks had individual champions in Julia Greonenboom in the discus, Michaela Heys in the long jump, Haley Castenada in the high jump, Megan Goemaat in the 3,000 and 1,500, Tressa Watts in the 800. They also got wins in the distance medley and the 4x800 relays.
