Tucker's ace keys win in Iowa Masters

Mitch Tucker, a 2011 Oskaloosa High School graduate and a 2013 Indian Hills graduate, claimed the championship at the 76th Iowa Masters Golf Tournament this past weekend.
There were 140 amateur level golfers who participated in the three-day golf tournament held at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
Tucker shot one-under-par 71 during his first round of play and was in third place at the end of that round. Tucker then posted a three-under-par 69 to remain in third place of the tournament after his second round.
Going into his final round on Sunday, he knew exactly how he needed to perform. Tucker had a hot streak in the middle of the final round that gave him the boost he needed. He had a birdie on hole 7, an eagle on hole 9, a birdie on hole 10 and then an ace on hole 11. Tucker's hole-in-one on the 155-yard, uphill par-3 boosted him into a tie for the lead.
"We couldn't see the green from the tee box, but we heard the crowd hollering and one of the caddies ran to the front of the green to motion the ball was in the hole," said Mitchell's dad, Steve Tucker, who was there watching the tournament along with Mitchell's older brother Alex. "That was pretty cool to see."
On the final hole of the tournament, Tucker and his opponent, Denny Bull of Norwalk, were tied. Bull parred the par 5 and Tucker sinked his 3-foot birdie putt to win the tournament by one stroke.
Tucker finished with a round of 69 for a three-day total of 209, 7-under par.
"I've really never been as nervous over a 3-footer," Tucker said. "It was a good feeling after winning it."
Tucker will continue his education and collegiate golf career this fall at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Another Oskaloosa golfer, Tyler Smith, finished tied for 13th at 9-over, 225 on rounds of 74-76-75.
