The Oskaloosa Herald
Steve Hicks of Oskaloosa won the Championship division at Oskaloosa Golf Aug. 17, but it was not without some anxious moments. Hicks had a comfortable 4-shot lead after 18 holes and seemed very much in control heading into the final 9 holes on the front side at Oskaloosa Golf. The ex-Iowa State player ran into trouble on the first four holes and was 5-over-par after four holes.
The lead was gone and Hicks was able to re-focus and hold off Brett Doud, Cory Sheeley and Alex Nielsen for the win, shooting a 27-hole total of 113. It was the sixth time Hicks has brought home the top prize at Oskaloosa Golf/Elmhurst Country Club. Doud was second at 117 and Cory Sheeley third at 118.
Bill Goodman took home the White Flight 18-hole championship by winning a playoff on the third extra hole over Brian Hugen. They were tied at 82 after 18 holes. Mark Kent was third at 89 and Russ Terpstra fourth after a playoff with Kent.
Jim Spry won the Senior Division with a blistering 79. Don Crandall was second at 81 and Stan Sloan third with an 82.
