Oskaloosa netters thump Albia

ALBIA — The Oskaloosa girls varsity tennis team picked up its first win of the season Monday night against Albia 8-1. 

“Overall, we played very well and we had several close matches that went our way,” Oskaloosa coach Josh Bandstra said. “I was very encouraged by our play as we continue to improve. Several girls got their first varsity singles wins. We played pretty well from top to bottom.”

Elizabeth Stam had the match of the night as she overcame double match point to win the tiebreak, 7-5 over Brooke Bettis at No. 3 singles. 

The junior varsity swept Albia 6-0 to improive to 3-0 on the season.

Oskaloosa assistant coach Bryan Kime said everyone stepped up and executed.

Taylor Hastings, 8-2. No. 5 — Amanda Anderson (O) def. Macenzie Billings, 9-8 (10-8). No. 6 — Abbie Meyer (O) def. Brooke Showers, 9-8 (7-4).


No. 1 — Williams-Bettis (A) def. Scharff-Stam, 8-3. No. 2 — Stewart-Rowley (O) def. Mills-Hastings, 8-0. No. 3 — Anderson-Brook Van Helten (O) def. Billings-Brittany Post, 8-3.
