Seb Stobart took runner-up honors to guide the Statesmen men’s golf team to a solid finish at the Ashford Spring Invitational Friday and Saturday.
William Penn placed sixth out of 12 teams at the Blue Top Ridge Golf Course with a two-day tally of 614 (308-306). No. 7 Bellevue (Neb.) held off #25 Ashford by two strokes for the team title with a 595 (288-307). The top five teams were only separated by nine shots.
The Statesmen’s 306 on Saturday tied for the lowest round on Day Two as all four scoring rounds were under 80 on a day where winds gusted to as high as 40 mph. William Penn was the only squad to improve from Friday to Saturday.
AIB’s Thailer Carlson was the tournament medalist with an even-par 144 (73-71). Stobart finished just two strokes back, tying for second out of 65 players at 146 (73-73).
Byron Lindeque also found himself in the top 20, in a tie for 19th at 152 (76-76).
Adriaan de Villiers managed a pair of rounds in the 70s as well to take 32nd at 157 (79-78), while Kaden VanMaanen was only one stroke back at 159 (80-79, T-37th).
Terence Schafer wrapped up William Penn’s scoring by placing 64th at 184 (93-91).
William Penn travels to Panora next Friday and Saturday to compete in the AIB Invitational at the Lake Panorama National Golf Course.
